Boating Safety Program
Started by Sheriff Tom Sheahan in 1997, the Mohave County Boater Volunteer program assists certified deputies with water patrols on Lake Havasu & Colorado River Meadview Area. Before being put to work volunteers complete a training program to acquaint them with radio procedures, water regulations, boating safety, search & rescue and OUI (Operating Under the Influence) investigation procedures.
Lake Havasu & Meadview Area offer fair boating weather practically all year long. During the cooler months and between lake activities, some Boating Safety Volunteers talk with the public about safe boating, and provide information at fairs and special events as well as teach boating safety & etiquette.
Boating Safety Officer Volunteers assist deputies search for missing boaters and swimmers, and help transport accident victims to on-shore emergency medical teams.
Holiday weekends bring the largest concentration of boats from around the country to Lake Havasu and surrounding Colorado River Area. Boating Safety Officer Volunteers, help control lake activities and prove to be invaluable in assisting the public as well as deputies.
