Training Classes
The training class room at the Water Safety Center is used as much as possible to conduct the various training required of the Boating Safety Volunteers. Boating "Hands On" sessions, coxswain training, night navigation and search and rescue techniques are conducted at the Water Safety Center Marina and on the lake. Training may be held at other sites due to the particluar circumstances.
Training
Volunteers must take the required training and be "Coxswain" Certified for duty assignments on County Owned Watercraft. Coxswain Certification requires On-The-Water Boat Handling as well as Classroon Training. "Boat Crew" Training is a pre-requisite for Coxswain Training. Members not certified will not be called for on the water duty. There are advanced Coxswains Certifications that are available to the Members, i.e. Radar operations, Night Navigation, Search & Rescue, etc. that expand their capabilities. We also have other resposibilities such as, Prisioner Transport that require special training and a Defensive Driving Course to be able to drive County Owned Vechiles. Training schedules are issued to registered BSO Volunteers via e-mail and are included in the web site. Notices will also be posted at the Contact Point Opertions Room for those that do not have internet capability.
