Training Overview And Requirements
The Mohave County Sheriff Office (MCSO) Policy & Program Manual is provided to all BSO Volunteers. It contains the BSO Progam Mission Statement, behavior/conduct requirements, dress code, department regulations/discipline, radio communication requirements and basically everything one needs to know to assist the MCSO and general boating public while enhancing public safety and other services to the public. Some of the Policy and Program facets only come into play occasionally, so the Manual should be kept close by for ready reference when needed.
Specific Classes have been developed to enhance the Boating Safety Officers Seamanship, Navigation, Prisoner Transport & Restraint, Defensive Driving, etc. Depending on what the Boating Safety Officers support plans are, select classes are mandatory before he/she will be authorized to perform those duties.
Examples:
All Volunteers are required to take BSO Orientation, Boating Law Title V and have a Boating Safety Course Certificate.
To Crew on a County Watercraft you must be certified as Crew.
To Operate County Watercraft you must be a certified Coxswain.
To Transport Prisoners you must be certified in Defensive Driving & Prisoner Restraint and Transport
To Operate a County Vehicle you must be certified in Defensive Driving and if you want to Tow a Watercraft you need to be certified in Trailering.
Other Advance Classes are also available that provide enhancement of the Boating Safety Officers capabilities and allows extension of responsiblies.
The following classes are available for those interested in joining the Mohave County Sheriff’s Boating Safety Program.
Once becoming a Member of the Mohave County Boating Safety Program and before being put to work, the Boating Safety Officers must complete a training program to acquaint them with the various duties that they intend to support. The following overview is provided.

The BSO will be notified of the scheduling of classes at the Monthly BSO Meetings, e-mail or sometimes by phone depending upon the circumtances.
